Whatever the project and wherever it is active, CNR-IGG has always and above all been concerned with training specialized personnel and informing collaborators, institutions and citizens of the progress of its research in the geothermal field, and beyond, at in order to help create a sensitive and up-to-date culture with respect to energy and the environment. These aims and activities take shape in:

  • Scientific articles, published for years in the main international journals of reference in the sector
  • Books and texts for the dissemination of the subject
  • International School of Geothermal Energy: an ambitious project, active from 1970 to 1992, which trained and specialized researchers from all over the world including, in particular, several specialists from the Latin American area, today involved in research in the sector. From 1992 to 2000, the Institute of Geosciences and Georesources of the CNR of Pisa continued to carry out specialized courses in numerous countries
  • Short courses, schools and masters. Both in collaboration with the ICS and ICTP Centers of the United Nations, and with the Italian Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and with various universities, in Italy and in the world. Among the most recent experiences: School on Geothermics, (October-November 2009, November 2011, December 2015, ICS-ICTP Trieste); Creation of an actividad de formacion en geothermal in the Salvadoran academic system (2008-2010, funded by the Italian Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs); Usos directos de geotermia de baja entalpia (October-November 2010, organized by the Departamento del Agua - Regional Norte and Universidad de la República | Salto - Uruguay)
  • Communication, information and dissemination activities in Italy and abroad. These include participation in workshops, conferences and seminars. Coordination of thematic sessions in the main congresses of the sector
  • Collection and organization of geothermal data and information at national (GeoThopica, EPOS) and international level (previously for IGA and currently forIRENA International Renewable Energy Agency).

CNR-IGG enthusiastically deals with research policy, through active participation in various associations:

  • Steering Committee of IGA (International Geothermal Association), the geothermal association that operates globally
  • Board of Directors of UGI (Italian Geothermal Union), the Italian geothermal association
  • Steering Committee of ETIP-DG (European Technology and Innovation Platform on Deep Geothermal, or the 'European Platform for Technology and Innovation of Deep Geothermal')
  • Steering Committee of EERA-JP Geothermal (European Energy Research Alliance Joint Program on Geothermal Energy, i.e. the 'European Alliance for Energy Research in Geothermal')
  • Bureau of the International Heat Flow Commission (IHFC)
  • Active member of EGEC (European Geothermal Energy Council, or the 'European Council for Geothermal Energy), for which he participates in the drafting of strategic documents

CNR-IGG coordinated the preparation of the Vision, Roadmap and Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda of ETIP-DG and is Chair of the Education and Information Committee of IGA. He is also currently co-chair of ETIP-DG and co-chair and subprogram leader on the 'Resource assessment' of EERA-JP Geothermal.
